Tricks: Yahoo Publisher Network Payments via PayPal
Sam HarrelsonContextual Ads, Tricks 2 Comments »Call me crazy, but I love PayPal affiliate payments. Shawn Collins reports that Yahoo is now offering PayPal as a form of payment as well.
I’m guessing Google won’t do the same :)
The Yahoo! Publisher Network now offers the option to receive commissions via PayPal.
This payment option requires a minimum earning of only $50, instead of $100, so affiliates don?t have to wait as long for their paydays.

Hacks: Affiliate Window Widgets
Sam HarrelsonAffiliate Programs, Contextual Ads, Hacks, Widgets, web2.0 No Comments »Widgets are the new black in the affiliate networks space because of their ease of use, flexibility and server side advantages of not having to rely on content publishers to update creatives. Fraser has a nice write up on Affiliate Window’s beta test of its widget platform…
Affiliate Window are beta testing a nice little tool to create widgets which are very easy to include on your site. I think this is the start of easy to use solutions that have come from the time and energy Affiliate Window have invested in standardising all their merchant data feeds.

Tips: Why Some Affiliates Succeed and Some Fail
Sam HarrelsonAffiliate Lifestyle, Affiliate Programs, Tips 1 Comment »My good friend Andrew Wee has an interesting podcast on the subject of why some affiliates achieve success and some don’t. If you’re not listening to Andrew’s podcasts or reading his feed, you’re missing out!
In this episode of the Friday Podcast, I look at why some newer Internet Marketers fail to achieve the success they are aiming for.
It?s nothing to do with the Google Slap, the Squdio slap, competition from other niches, or knowing what to do. It?s something even more insidious and could affect you more deeply that you realize.

Smashing Magazine does it again with another incredible post:
In this overview we?d like to present some useful analytics services, validation tools and monitoring services you should be aware of. Some ?standard? tools - such as W3C Validators - are skipped; instead we?ve tried to focus on tools you probably don?t know that much about.
That synopsis doesn’t do this post justice. Head on over to see all the goodies, tools and tricks they cover to help your site gain, keep and reflect traffic:

Tips: Google Killing PageRank?
Sam HarrelsonContextual Ads, Google, Tips 1 Comment »Interesting debate on a few forums dedicated to search and all things Google about the possibility of Google doing away with PageRank or at least eliminating it from the toolbar. Loren Baker has a nice post on the issue:
There is currently a debate going on right now about Google removing the PageRank score from the Google Toolbar.
Why?
- Toolbar PageRank numbers can be 3 months out of date or more.
- Some ?PR Updates? have been buggy enough to seriously misrepresent a page?s real PR.
- Matt Cutts has blogged that PR Updates are considered pretty much a non-event around Google.
- PageRank has started a flawed econonmy of link building and trading in an effort to raise or distribute these scores.
Tips: Pay-For-Visit Advertising as a Future Model?
Sam HarrelsonAffiliate Programs, Hacks, Stats and Analytics, Tools, Video No Comments »There’s no doubt that we’re entering an age where mobile, web browsing, and video are all meshing together. Being able to monetize that sort of experience is one of the difficult issues facing marketers today.
Thanks to Jeff Doak for passing along this interesting piece which hints at a possible model for the future…
“US patent office documents released Thursday show that a startup named Pelago is seeking a patent covering Pay-For-Visit Advertising, which uses GPS, Bluetooth, or RFID on your mobile devices to track your travels to see if you wander into a place of business that appeared in an ad shown earlier on your cellphone, PDA, or laptop. To maximize ad revenue, phone calls are also tracked to see if you dial a number associated with an ad, and financial transactions are examined to see if you make a purchase from an advertiser. The application goes on to note that the system may be of interest to government agencies. Pelago just raised $7.4M from the likes of KPCB and Jeff Bezos.”
